Honoring the Legacy of

Mark Francis Stas

may 15, 1958 - may 13, 2026

Storm-Forged Alliance is deeply honored and grateful to the Stas family for choosing our organization as the recipient of memorial gifts made in Mark's memory.

Mark's life was defined by family, community, and a lifelong passion for sports. From playing hockey on frozen ponds in Massachusetts to competing in baseball, tennis, golf, and bowling throughout his life, Mark understood the unique ability of sports to bring people together, create lasting friendships, and build stronger families and communities.

It is fitting that gifts made in his memory will help others experience those same opportunities.

Memorial donations received in honor of Mark will help Storm-Forged Alliance provide sports programs, camps, tournaments, equipment assistance, and recreational experiences for Veterans, First Responders, Specialized Government Personnel, and their families. Through these opportunities, individuals of all ages can build confidence, create meaningful connections, and experience the same joy of competition, teamwork, and community that Mark cherished throughout his life.

To further honor Mark's legacy, Storm-Forged Alliance will dedicate a portion of this year's NYTEX DFW Armed Forces Hockey Classic tournament to his memory. During the event, we will recognize Mark's lifelong commitment to athletics, family, and community, ensuring that his passion for sport continues to inspire others for years to come.

We are humbled by the trust the Stas family has placed in us and are committed to carrying Mark's legacy forward through the lives we impact together.

Though Mark is no longer with us, his love of the game, his devotion to family, and his enduring spirit will continue to make a difference through every athlete, family, and participant who benefits from these programs.

Thank you, Mark. Your legacy lives on.

Honor Mark’s legacy by supporting Storm-Forged Alliance. Your gift helps provide life changing sports experiences, retreats, and support for Veterans, First Responders, Specialized Government Personel and their families.

Mark’s Story

Mark Francis Stas was born on May 15, 1958, in Manchester, New Hampshire, to Helene and Richard "Dick" Stas. Mark was one of five siblings: brothers Ken, Keith, and Steve, and sister Lisa. Growing up on Sleigh Road, he and his brothers played hockey on frozen ponds and baseball in the street, planting the seeds of a lifelong love for athletics.

Mark pitched for Nashoba Valley Technical High School and graduated in 1976. It was during those high school years that he met Susan Chakarian, a friend of his brother Keith. When Sue and Keith needed a ride to the mall, Mark drove them. Three years later, on September 6, 1980, they married. Soon after, they packed their 1971 Camaro and drove cross-country from Massachusetts to California, where they built their life together. Mark and Sue shared 45 beautiful years of marriage.

They raised two daughters, Kelly and Sara, who inherited their father’s athletic spirit and thrived playing softball. Mark was incredibly proud of his girls.

For 37 years, Mark worked for Chevron in Information Technology, providing steadily for his family. In 2018, Mark and Sue moved to Bethel Island and quickly became involved in the community. In retirement, he embraced the activities he loved most: fishing Taylor Slough, taking photos of the beautiful delta sunsets, playing in the Men’s Senior Baseball League, and enjoying tennis, bowling and golf.

Above all, Mark cherished watching his children and grandchildren play sports, offering his unwavering support from the sidelines.

Mark lived a full and active life rooted in family, loyalty, and the joy of competition and creation. His quiet strength, love of the game, and devotion to those he loved leaves a lasting legacy in everyone who knew him.

Though we will miss him deeply, Mark’s spirit lives on through Sue, his daughters, his grandchildren, and the many stories we will continue to share.

Rest in peace, Mark. You will always be remembered.

Our Positive Impact

“The retreat reminded me what true camaraderie feels like again. Spending time alongside other Veterans, learning new skills, and reconnecting through shared experiences created something bigger than just a weekend away. It built confidence, brotherhood, and a sense of purpose that many of us hadn’t felt in a long time. Programs like this matter because they remind Veterans they are never standing alone.”
